The tragic downing of Malaysia Airlines flight MH-17 on Thursday was a golden opportunity for the folks over at “fair and balanced” Fox News to attack the President as callous, uncaring and lacking in leadership. Bill O’Reilly was not about to be left out of the feeding frenzy, as he and like-minded guest Kate Obenshain picked apart Obama’s entire day, finding fault in everything he did from the time of the initial reports to the end of the day.
O’Reilly opened by revisiting his criticism of the President attending a fund raiser in Texas last week after declining to go to the border while visiting the state. “Tonight Mr. Obama is here in the city [New York] raising money again as I stated,” he said, “in fact in the five and a half years he’s been in office, Mr. Obama has attended 395 fund raisers, as opposed to 338 in President Bush, the younger’s eight years.”
His contempt for this President is openly displayed in that one sentence. Notice that the sitting President is “Mr. Obama” while the former President is “President Bush.” This was not an unintended slight, it was a brazen display of contempt.
Obenshain could not agree more. “Stunning,” she said in reply to O’Reilly’s question about the appropriateness of attending the fund raiser. “I really am lacking words, not just the fund raisers, Bill, which was bad enough, the photo op at the charcoal grill. But even worse, I watched his speech today, his transportation speech, he gave 40 seconds to the airline crash.”
Watch the conversation below which includes James Carville’s well reasoned dismissal of their alarmism.
