Karen Mathews Davis was a Republican candidate for congress in 2014. She now faces federal charges for sending herself death threats and then lying about it.
Davis began what would be an investigation into herself, when she reported the letters she wrote to police.
Many months and one failed polygraph test later, Davis was arrested at her Lodi home Wednesday and admitted to lying. She was released on bond Thursday.
She wrote the death threats to herself to gain attention for her 2014 congressional campaign, and thankfully her plan worked because she is all over the news today.
However, there is an even bigger issue than some crazy Republican lying for attention.
In a separate incident, Davis sent a man to prison for 18 years for allegedly assaulting her and sodomizing her with the barrel of a gun in her garage.
The man, Roger Steiner, has always insisted on his innocence and has spoken out against Davis since his 2014 release.
We now know this woman lies to police and fabricates stories from thin air for attention. Isn’t it possible she did the same thing in the case of Roger Steiner?
Daniel Harralson is Steiner’s attorney. He released this statement about the alleged attack from a now well-known liar:
“I think it never happened and she made all this up to help her get elected. They pieced all these fabrications together to convict him of a crime he didn’t commit, and the jury bought it.”
“It was one of the biggest losses of my career, and I honestly believed he was innocent. I still believe he was innocent.”
Steiner called The Bee in January. He said he was “railroaded” and that he was the victim, not Karen Davis.
He was robbed of 18 years of his life so that Karen Davis could write a best seller, which she coined The Terrorist In My Garage.
Appropriate for GOP rhetoric.
Steiner apologized for appearing “a little growly and in your face” during his trial and incarceration, but can you put yourself in his shoes? Imagine the frustration.
During her congressional campaign, Davis addressed the allegations by Steiner by painting him as a liar, or as part of some conspiracy against her:
“The timing is just too odd; that man (Steiner) just got out (of prison).”
She also mentioned the possibility of receiving more threats while running for congress, referring to the threats she would admit she wrote herself just months later:
“But it didn’t work with me in 1994 and it’s not going to work with me today. I guess I’m too stubborn to let that happen.”
Or you’re just an asshole, Karen.
