On Tuesday WFTV, an ABC/FNN affiliate in Orlando, Florida, dropped a bombshell when they reported that Dr. Shiping Bao, the Volusia County Medical Examiner who examined Trayvon Martin’s body in February of 2012, alleged that the prosecutor intentionally lost the case. He alleges that they did not want to win the case because of a bias against Martin.
Dr. Bao’s attorney, Willie E. Gary, told the TV station that his client was basically told to keep quiet about inconvenient facts. He said that the general attitude seemed to have been, “he got what he deserved.” Dr. Bao, he said, was ready to testify, with scientific evidence to support his findings that Trayvon could not have been on top of Zimmerman pounding his head into the ground when he was shot. He was simply waiting for the Prosecutor to ask the question and the question never came.
Dr. Bao has filed a lawsuit against the county for $100,000,000 for wrongful termination. He was terminated by the county last week. His termination letter gives no reason; it only says that he was given the opportunity to resign and since he hadn’t he was being let go.
His attorney has filed a complaint and says that Dr. Bao was made a scapegoat and fired without cause, and that he is prepared to bring proof that Trayvon was not the aggressor.
This really isn’t a smoking gun, yet. It remains to be seen what Dr. Bao has, if anything. If he really does have proof of what so many have felt for so long, there may be far-reaching implications. A lot of people could lose a lot if they did ignore evidence or manipulate it. The unfortunate part is that even if it is proved, George Zimmerman still walks away, as he cannot be tried a second time for the crime.
