A Reddit user, Dtootho, posted his daughter’s third grade worksheet from a private religious school in Florida in the “WTF” thread on Tuesday morning–and with good reason!
Would you believe that his daughter missed question four? The parent was so ashamed that he posted it on Reddit for the world to see. Of course, the shame was not with the child, but with the school itself!
You see, Science class is a magical place in which children are supposed to learn how the world works. Unfortunately, at this school, “God did it” is an acceptable answer for even the most basic scientific concepts–like gravity!
Referring back to question 4…It reads:
That’s right, folks! People who don’t believe in God are completely incapable of explaining why things stay down. Of course we believe in it, silly kid! We simply lack the understanding divinely passed down to a bunch of illiterate shepherds.
Question 5 is just as absurd:
Yup. “God did it.”
This sort of thing is why we need comprehensive education reform that reaches across both public and private schools. Children need to be guaranteed some basic standards of real education no matter which school they attend, and religion needs to stay in church…or maybe, in Christian schools, in religion class. This farcical approach to science needs to end.
