It’s a day ending in “-y,” so you know what that means, right? WGHP reports that a 13-year-old boy from Lewisville, North Carolina, is just the latest victim of America’s gun fetishism; he was fatally shot while lying down in a hotel room on Saturday.
The gun that shot him? It was fired from an adjacent room, by accident.
The teen, Nathan Andrew Clark, was staying at a Comfort Suites while he was participating in the Capital Area Soccer League tournament.
At 11 p.m., a woman staying with him called 911, telling police that he was bleeding profusely from a bump on the back of his head, and family members met with little success while they tried to resuscitate him. The woman told the dispatch that she “had no idea” what happened.
By the time paramedics arrived, the eighth grader was dead.
Freedom, people. Freedom. The NRA approves. You can’t build a functional civilization on the corpses of dead teens, leave off a utopia, but nobody tell the gun nuts that. We already know how they feel about your children.
Police quickly determined that the teen had been shot, and located Randall Louis Vater. Vater was in a nearby room and was in possession of a firearm; police said that Vater accidentally discharged his weapon. The round traveled through a wall and into Clark’s room, where it struck him on the head and killed him.
Vater’s history with the police is a long one. He served time in prison on a raft of charges, which include violating a restraining order, communicating threats, and hit-and-run. The last time he was in police custody was October 25, discounting his current stay with the police at the Wake County Detention Center, where he’s charged with involuntary manslaughter and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
If only there had been a good guy with a gun to stop this felon before he killed this defenseless teenager from several rooms away.
