We don’t know their names yet…but maybe that’s appropriate. Five fewer things to have to forget, or to simply gloss over, in a nation where life is as cheap as a television wedding, and where no degree of insanity, havoc or death is shocking anymore.
It was another full, very silent, day before anyone went to check on them. The father was known as a friendly maintenance worker at the apartment complex. A friend contacted the apartment owner on Sunday, asking to have someone check in on the family.
The maintenance worker who responded called the police when he found the first dead body, as yet unidentified. When police arrived on the scene, they found the other four bodies spread throughout three bedrooms. They included the maintenance worker, his wife, and their three children aged 12, 7 and 4 years old.
The children were known to play tag in the street outside. Neighbors knew them as “happy.” One placed flowers outside of the complex.
Police are calling the weapon a “long gun,” meaning anything from a shotgun, to a hunting rifle to an AR-15. They believe it was a murder-suicide perpetrated by the friendly maintenance worker upon his family, and then himself. There were no signs of forced entry, and he was found with what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Police will release details and identities later today. But you already know the story: A friendly, nameless janitor butchers his friendly, nameless family as they sleep, on a day you can’t remember, in a town whose name you’ve already forgotten. All in 290 words or less.
We now return you to your regularly scheduled “Drunk Shenanigans of Sarah Palin.”
Family of five found murdered.
