In the fight against fair wages and their addiction to sucking off of the government teat by forcing many of their workers to supplement their incomes on government food programs, McDonald’s has ferociously clung to the assertion that any raise in the federal minimum wage would be a devastating death knell that would bankrupt the company or send their prices sky-high. All of that may have just been debunked however by a leaked photo from a McDonald’s employee that shows a waste sheet of just how little it costs McDonald’s to produce their pink slime filled, unhealthy food.
What you’re looking at here above, is a waste sheet that McDonald’s uses to calculate waste costs when food is either expired, past it’s best before date, or has been tossed out because it wasn’t sold in time to meet internal serving standards. The costs associated with wasted or spoiled food in this sheet gives us all a rare glimpse into just how little McDonald’s is on the hook for when they produce their mostly unhealthy, filler-infused menu items.
As the intensity of the push for a livable wage by low-income employees at many big box chains, including McDonald’s has increased significantly over the last few years, Rotten Ronnie’s (AKA McDonald’s) has spent more time and money sidestepping the issue and trying to bury it than they have actually invested into trying to fix it.
From telling employees to go on food stamps, to warning them against eating fast food because it is unhealthy, to suggesting that they sell their Christmas gifts on Ebay in order to make some extra cash, McDonald’s has done nothing to improve the lives of its employees while making sure their CEO’s wage just tripled to $13.8million last year.
Taking a look at the waste sheet, and comparing the base costs of McDonalds menu items to the amount they are sold for at retail prices shows some absolutely staggering numbers on the profits that McDonalds rakes in while paying their employees next to nothing poverty level wages.
- Base cost of Quarter Cheese $0.87 – Retail price $3.69 – Profit in percentage %424
- Base cost of a Bic Mac $0.77 – Retail price $3.99 – Profit in percentage %518
- Base cost of a Filet-o-Fish $0.54 – Retail price $3.49 – Profit in percentage %646
That’s not a misprint, a Filet0-Fish really does have a whopping 646 percent profit margin. It has to make you wonder what actually goes into (or doesn’t go into) the food that they produce to make it so astronomically profitable.
So what do you say America? While McDonald’s refuses to budge on paying its employees a fair wage, while making sure their CEO goes home with a fat $13.8million a year pay check, and now with this waste sheet showing just how insane their profits are, we have one question for you:
Are you “lovin’ it?”
