36 year-old Lantz Day fell victim to a 42 second-long tasing by local Fredericksburg police in Virginia. For those of you who are unfamiliar, a taser gun is a non-lethal electrically driven device used for incapacitating a person by administering electric shock aimed at disrupting superficial muscle functions. It is a very painful process to endure.
Day was a passenger in a car that damaged five parked vehicles as it raced through the busy streets of downtown Fredericksburg. While the driver was able to escape and flee the scene, Day was not so fortunate. Although the man threatened to harm anyone who notified the police, citizens came together and held Day captive until authorities could arrive.
One man shot a video of the incident in which shows police questioning Day right before he gets up to try and escape. As he ran towards the crowded streets, a police officer used a taser for 42 long and agonizing seconds to detain the man. In the video, you can hear the crackling of the electro-shock and hear the man scream in pain “Stop it! Stop it!”
Day was arrested on obstruction of justice charges, but due to the widely spread video, the police department is now under investigation as to whether the officer’s actions were excessive or justified.
