Sometimes, you just lose all faith in humanity. A group of Bay Village high school students are accused of dumping a bucket of urine, feces, and cigarette butts on an autistic child after telling him it was part of the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge.
The group of Ohio teens did not stop at simply abusing and humiliating the boy, however. They really needed to make it stick — so they used his cell phone to record the attack and posted it to social media.
“Once we found out about it, we were just horrified,” said Diane, the mother of the Bay High School student. “I want these kids held accountable for what they did to him and they targeted somebody who just didn’t really understand what was going on.”
In the video, the teen is wearing only his underwear as a vile concoction reminiscent of the contents of Sarah Palin’s heart is dumped on the boy’s head from the roof of a garage.
“He was embarrassed because he did not know what the contents were until afterwards and then he didn’t want anybody to know,” said his mother. “They used his phone to tape it and they put it up on Instagram.”
After the video aired on FOX 8, Bay Village Schools released a statement decrying the disgusting actions on the part of its students. In part, it read, “Our entire Bay Village Schools community is heartsick over the cruel actions taken against one of our special needs students as shown in the recent video aired on Fox 8 News. The student and family targeted by this act have our utmost sympathy, and we will work to let this student know that we care very much about his well being.”
“It hurts us deeply to see such a wonderful effort twisted to deliberately cause someone pain,” the superintendent wrote.
Thus far, the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge has raised more than $100 million to fight Lou Gehrig’s Disease.
The Ice Bucket Challenge has produced numerous hilarious moments. One confederate flag-waving dumbass managed to set himself ablaze, and Bill Maher challenged Dick Cheney to the “Douse Yourself in Gasoline Challenge” in a hilarious Funny or Die video.
Unfortunately, this annoying-yet-fun force of good has been corrupted by people who simply needed to abuse a special needs child.
“The bucket challenge is supposed to be raising awareness for this disease and now they’ve turned it into a sick joke,” said the teen’s mom. “I just can’t understand why kids would do something this cruel.”
