You know how it is — you move into a new place, and you never really know what’s hiding in the walls. Sure, it might look clean, even at it sparkles and smells of fresh bleach; but there’s no telling how many years the previous tenant spent consistently leaving old pizza boxes lying around, regularly sweeping bits of fish stick under the refrigerator, or adopting any number of other policies bound to attract diseased vermin. Indeed, it may take years to find and get rid of the worst ones. Fortunately, at least one diseased vermin leftover from the White House’s previous tenant has just been stepped on.
In the last week of August, former HHS cybersecurity operations manager (one of five such managers working under the bureau’s chief security officer) was convicted on all seven child-indecency criminal charges resulting from his 2013 arrest. His arrest came as part of an FBI raid on the servers of a indecency-distributing Facebook knockoff where pedophiles gathered to swap pictures and discuss their most depraved fantasies.
In 2012, the FBI deployed a custom-made program dubbed “Operation Torpedo” to penetrate multi-layered, user-hiding “onion” routers like the one Timothy DeFoggi was using, and track down those who visited these illegal sites. DeFoggi, who went by the screen names “F*ckChrist” and “PTasseater.”
In his “About Me” section, DeFoggi said “Have many perversions. Contact me for fantasy chat.” And there’s significantly more to it — in addition to swapping pictures, it’s entirely possible that DeFoggi was mere steps away from becoming a brutal rapist and murderer. Chillingly, in one private message, he was in the process of coordinating with another user
“…to fulfill their mutual fantasies to violently rape and murder children.”
That’s the genteel summation. The details of the discussion were so graphic that the judge ordered many of them redacted from the court notes.
DeFoggi was kicked off the site when the FBI shut it down in 2012. But he had others. When the Bureau kicked down his door on March 20th, 2013, DeFoggi bolted upstairs to another room to grab his laptop. Police said he had to be “forcibly separated from it.” When they opened it, they found he was in the process of downloading an underage video at that very moment.
DeFoggi’s seven charges include conspiracy to distribute child indecency, child exploitation for sexual purposes, and accessing the internet with intent to view child indecency. He faces up to 20 years at sentencing.
DeFoggi had a previous run-in with law enforcement in 2010, when he received a court order to stay away from an 11-year-old boy, whom the boy’s mother said was being “groomed by DeFoggi for sexual purposes.”
Creeper, get away from my kid.
Thank God, some people are still parents.
Teapublican Reactions, and Who Hires the Devil
Of course, questions do need to be asked about why DeFoggi wasn’t investigated earlier, following the 2010 injunction in New Mexico, and how long he remained on Government payroll (with high security clearance) after the FBI had learned his true identity. It could have been six months, could have been six hours. It would be nice to know.
But our friends on the Right, particularly in the Tea Party, have been having a field day decrying DeFoggi as “yet another example of the monsters Obama hires.” Here are a few comments (and picture) copied straight from the Tea Party News Network’s article on this conviction:
“As long as Holder is around to do the cover up, nothing much will be done to anyone in the Obamanation.” (Except for a 20-year prison sentence?)
“Yes, that’s the guy responsible for protecting everyone’s Obamacare medical records. This administration must look to hire criminals. They couldn’t possibly hire so many by accident.”
“Obama administration doesn’t see any wrong in [child indecency] because liberals don’t believe in morals, they don’t believe the welfare of our children matter!”
“I’ve lost my shocked face with this admin. Where does anyone think the attack on the moral foundation of a nation comes from?”
“Democrats are simply totally corrupt………the entire political party is totally corrupt.”
“Typical lib behavior.”
Sorry about that. Especially the last one. You know how representatives samples are.
Now, in the fact-free world of Teabaggerland, we should never be surprised by any reality-deficient statement or failure of appropriate context. Sometimes, it takes work to look up things you don’t find on The Blaze or its cousin, the Daily Mail UK. Here’s one of them:
DeFoggi was hired in 2008.
That would be the best part of two years before Obama took office. Bush administration, that was.
“This administration must look to hire criminals. They couldn’t possibly hire so many by accident.”
Hey…even a broken clock is right twice a day.
