Conservative media outlets take a lot of flak for their pretensions toward being “fair and balanced” — particularly given the popularity of so many unbalanced individuals. You can generally recognize the mentally unbalanced among conservatives because they’re standing on overpasses screaming about The Benghazi, socialism and most of all…IMPEACHMENT!
Along with those words, you’ll often hear a few more calculated to effect; “bitterness,” “despair,” “misery,” “welfare,” “the world is on fire,” “slavery,” “death trains,” “Soviet,” and “terrorist” among others. And make no mistake, this article from Breitbart contains all of them. But it also contains something just a little bit stunning. Sort of.
After the first 400 or so words — containing all of the above — Breitbart’s Charles Hurt evinces the kind of simple truth observation native to all great comedians and children. On the issue of impeaching Obama:
“But Republicans in Congress must also remember their own limitations. Pursuing and succeeding at the ugly business of impeachment requires winning a political argument. This is not the GOP’s strong suit.
Winning a political argument means you have your message handy at all times, you stick to it, and you deliver it with good will and even charm. You cannot sound like a carping politician and win an argument like this.
If we have learned nothing else from the past few miserable elections, it is that Republicans really are not very good at, well, politics. As we saw during the latest Mississippi Senate race, the only people Republicans seem to be able to beat are other Republicans.
Lord help us if they have to actually beat somebody else. And Lord help them if they actually think they can win an argument as thorny and fissile as the impeachment of America’s first black president.“
And then there’s some more invective about how Democrats engineered the whole thing to play the victim and garner political support. And he might have a point there; his article comes just on the heels of the news that Democrats have raised millions in funds since the Grand Old Tea Party began talking up impeachment. And finally, B. Hurt picks up on Boehner’s complaint that Democrats are the ones still talking about impeachment at this point.
And it’s true. How dare you Lefties talk about the thing that we were talking about two days ago? You’re just playing the victim by pretending that we were going to do the thing we said we were going to do last week before we realized how stupid we sounded! Ugh…liberals.
Let’s blame it on the black guy.
