Eric Holder Opens Federal Investigation Into Police Shooting of Unarmed Black Teen (Video)

Attorney General Eric Holder announced on Monday that the Justice Department will be conducting its own investigation into the shooting death of Michael Brown, the 18 year old who was shot by a police officer in the St. Louis suburb of Ferguson, Missouri.

The investigation will be conducted by the Civil Rights Division of the Justice Department, members of the St. Louis FBI field office and the U.S. Attorney’s Office Holder said.

“At every step, we will work with the local investigators, who should be prepared to complete a thorough, fair investigation in their own right. I will continue to receive regular updates on this matter in the coming days,” Holder said.

The unnamed police officer involved has said that Brown, who was unarmed at the time of his death, attacked him but the shooting has created racial tension in the neighborhood where there was already distrust of the police.  The population of the area is 70 percent black with a police force that is 90 percent white and police are perceived to be biased against the black residents.

The shooting has sparked three days of demonstrations leading to several outbreaks of violence and looting, including the burning of a gas station/convenience store leading to more than 30 arrests and accusations of police brutality.  After a police helicopter was fired on by protesters on Tuesday the FFA imposed a no fly zone in the airspace over the area citing safety concerns.

Holder is hoping that the federal investigation which raises the possibility of civil rights charges against the officer will help to defuse the situation and restore order to the area.

“Everyone deserves a transparent understanding of what happened here,” said Senator Roy Blunt (R-MO) who along with Senator Claire McCaskill (D-MO) had urged Holder to open the investigation.

About Bob Cull

I'm retired and live in the Finger Lakes region of Upstate NY. I have strong opinions and my political bent has not changed since I was in high school. Most of my family thinks that I need to find a "real" hobby to fill my time in retirement, but I am content to share my opinions with others and exercise my "right" as a cranky old retired dude to express my views--which are based on many years of real world experience.

Are you just now finding this out Bob? I’ve known for a couple of days that Eric Holder had inserted a “social justice” investigation into this case. Do you have any news for us?

    • Laurie Neufeld

Poor Susie. You really should have that multiple personality compulsion of yours checked out.

      • George M Melby

Give him/her time to recuperate from her/his trans operation. I’m sure that’s very draining.

Actually, I’m looking forward to the absolute frenzy the triplets will be in once the shunning week starts. The sockpuppet master will have them “conversing” with each other and frantically guest-upvoting themselves in an attempt to get that “attention fix” they so desperately crave. I really think the moratorium should continue past the week, just to see how desperately they’ll start slinging imbecilities around in a pathetic bid to get someone, ANYONE to notice them…

          • George M Melby

Well, LOLOL, we’ll see how the first week goes, then we’ll push into week 2. The real proof of the pudding will be when the four of them start talking to themselves and they can’t figure out who’s saying what. That will be the sign that we’ve found success! To literally strip the gears of Sybil Hooper, Inc.

She/he never having held a real job doesn’t understand how things work. You know, how those of us who know about these things know that when the boss wants something done you do it. She/he gets snarky that I wrote and article that the boss wanted and makes an incredibly stupid comment knowing full well that this is not the first time I have mentioned this investigation. The boss wanted an article about it so I did as I was told and wrote it. Susie doesn’t know how that works though having leeched off of others all his/her life.

Now if only they would investigate the voter suppression acts.

Cameras in the cars and on the officers, and explanations for any breaks in the video and audio. That will save people in and out of uniform.
