A man furious over the recent attack on the Boston Marathon allegedly punched a 39-year-old cab driver, fracturing his jaw, in what some are calling a hate crime. The cab driver, Mohamed A. Salim who is also an Iraq War veteran, recorded audio of the the assault on his cell phone.
Salim picked Emerald Aviation President Ed Dahlberg up at the Country Club of Fairfax in Northern Virginia around 2AM. After the conversation turned to Salim’s home country and religion, Dahlberg is heard saying “Denounce those motherf**kers now! If you’re a f**king Muslim flying jets into the f**king World Trade Center then f**k you. I will slice your f**king throat right now.” Salim, who was later treated at an area hospital, claims that afterward Dahlberg punched him, fracturing his jaw. Dahlberg was intoxicated at the time.
In an interview with CNN’s Wolf Blitzer on Wednesday, Salim said, “I sacrificed for this country–and I myself was fighting the terrorists and I’m against acts of violence. I’m not a terrorist. I’m not a jihadist. I’m American like you.”
Dahlberg, who has been charged with misdemeanor assault pending further investigation, claims he is innocent.
