Anonymous declared an all-out war on Donald Trump this month, but it seems that not everyone affiliated with the hacker group agrees with the operation to tarnish the failed mogul’s already soiled name. This has led to a disrupt in the inner workings of the organization.
Members of the organization have pretty much agreed up until now that they would target organizations like the Church of Scientology, ISIS, and the Ku Klux Klan. However, there seems to be a bit of a differing opinion when it comes to American presidential candidate Donald Trump.
Some members of the group are even going as far as to disavow the #Op that is aimed toward Donald Trump and his 2016 political campaign. While some are saying that the operation against Trump goes against Anonymous’ core values, which include remaining neutral in elections.
Some are even saying that the entire Anonymous movement has been stolen, or that the organization is somehow under attack by a rogue activist who has set their targets on Donald trump. A video that was released soon after showed a member of anonymous issuing this statement:
‘We are feeling deeply concerned about an operation that was launched in our name – the so-called Operation Trump. We – Anonymous – are warning you about the lies and deceits pushed under our banner.’
Someone named Beemsee issued a message on Ghostbin regarding #OpTrump:
“There has been large amounts of opposition to this operation as many think that OpTrump aims to censor Donald Trump’s free speech. This is not the case. We do NOT stand for a specific political ideology.”
One of the first Twitter accounts associated with #OpTrump movement is run by a woman who says she has been a part of Anonymous for nine months. She also claims to be a part of past operations including one in support of Chelsea Manning and one against Sea World. She made this statement over Twitter:
“We believe Mr. Trump is a blatant hateful racist with enough money to buy his way to power that’s something that we in good conscience can’t allow.”
She asserts that Anonymous would have never organized #opTrump because the movement is against the entire system and not just one man. She also said that there are a number of people in Anonymous who are also supporters of Donald trump. Makes you lose a little respect, right?
I think it is far more dangerous for Anonymous to align themselves with members who would openly support a known bigot than it is for Anonymous to remain neutral in political campaigns. It seems silly to even compare the two, however, this riff may be responsible for bringing an end to Anonymous as we know it.
