Here’s an interesting sideshow: A photo of one of the Duggar brood holding a shotgun on Christmas morning has launched a thousand comments on Facebook, many of them arguing over the wisdom of mixing teens and firearms.
On one hand, there’s the group of people who haven’t quite realized that we live in 2015, not 1815. On the other hand, the Christians who watch the Duggars, are presumably pro-life, and are condemning the gift as, in the words of one commentor, the “worst present ever.”
The photo is of Jedidiah Duggar, who turned 16 on December 30, holding a 12-gauge shotgun the family’s house, presumably a gift that he got for either his birthday (if they believe life begins at conception, why don’t they celebration “conception days” instead of “birthdays?”) or Christmas, or both, since it sucks having your birthday so close to a major shopping holiday.
Some justified it as “hunting,” and you can indeed use it for hunting. A 12-gauge and a .9mm were what the shooters at Columbine used when they went “hunting.”
All of the following screen caps were made of social media posts, so they’re fair game:
When did we defeat Australia? Were we secretly fighting with the Ottomans at Gallipoli or something?
Actually, we get our meat from factory farms, although the carbon-friendly option of eating insects is always open (and let’s face it; chocolate covered ants are good).
Nothing is unclean? I wonder if they say the same thing about gay marriage and transexuals.
A wild sensible adult appears! Here, drink this Kool Aid, a tasteless joke in reference to the 918 people who died at Jonestown back in 1978.
I keep my family safe by dialing 9-11 and keep food on my table by going to the grocery store. It’s called “the future.” You should try living here.
Of all the tools he could pick for his red herring argument, Red Head up there picks buckets. What’s wrong, were the others out to lunch?
The number one cause of death for children ages -1 (?) to 24 is abortion, “by a long shot.” I’m pretty sure the number one killer for ages 12 months to 24 years old is accidents. Under 12 months, and it’s birth defects.
There’s lying with statistics, and then there’s recklessly flailing made up numbers around like a morning star with a head pure fractal wrongness.
In the end, it shouldn’t surprise anyone that the pro-gun side outweighs the other side, but it’s good to see there’s a fraction of the population who are sensible adults and think that giving a child access to a firearm is a stupid idea.
