According to 21-year-old Jessa Duggar, the root of the Holocaust is not the antisemitism that served as a lynch pin for much of European policy throughout the history of Christian Europe. No, according to the reality TV star, Charles Darwin’s theory of evolution is to blame.
While posting on Instagram, Dugger expressed concerns over racism stemming from the “evolutionary idea” that man came from something “less than human” and that some groups are “more evolved” and others are “less evolved.” She added that it was “denying” God made humans “from the beginning:”
“I walked through the Holocaust Museum again today. very sobering. Millions of innocents denied the most basic and fundamental of all rights–their right to life. One human destroying the life of another deemed ‘less than human.’ Racism, stemming from the evolutionary idea that man came from something less than human; that some people groups are ‘more evolved’ and others ‘less evolved.’ A denying that our Creator–GOD–made us human from the beginning, all of ONE BLOOD and ONE RACE, descendants of Adam. The belief that some human beings are ‘not fit to live.’”
See, this is what happens when you learn about evolution from the 700 Club instead of an actual biology class.
Anyone with even a cursory knowledge of evolution knows that there’s no such thing as “more evolved” or “less evolved.” Fish are not “less evolved” than you are, and if you want proof, consider this: who is better at breathing water, you or a fish? And if you find that a stupid question, maybe you’re not “evolved enough” to understand how breathing water is important to survival.
Dugger, whose family is best known for the television show, 19 Kids and Counting, also compared Nazi death camps to abortion in the United States, confirming my suspicious that right-wingers think the Holocaust is bad because they were told it was, not because of any sort of deeper realization of the horror it presents:
So they’re murdered. Slaughtered. Kids with Down syndrome or other disabilities. The sickly. The elderly. The sanctity of human life varies not in sickness or health, poverty or wealth, elderly or pre-born, little or lots of melanin [making you darker or lighter skinned], or any other factor. ‘If thou faint in the day of adversity, thy strength is small. If thou forbear to deliver them that are drawn unto death, and those that are ready to be slain; If thou sayest, Behold, we knew it not; doth not He that pondereth the heart consider it? and He that keepeth thy soul, doth not He know it? and shall not He render to every man according to his works?” (Proverbs 24:10-12) May we never sit idly by and allow such an atrocity to happen again. Not this generation. We must be a voice for those who cannot speak up for themselves. Because EVERY LIFE IS PRECIOUS. #ProLife
I like that she provides a definition for melanin, but not for “preborn.” Just what is a “preborn” anyway? Is that like the “unperson” being a “preborn” makes your mother?
On her Instagram account, Dugger also noted that the fossil record proved the Biblical story of Genesis, since if you’re going to misunderstand a cornerstone of modern biology, why not throw geology and paleontology in the mix, too?
If there really was a worldwide flood (as the Bible speaks of), what would the evidence be? Billions of dead things buried in rock layers, laid down by water, all over the earth. And that’s exactly what we find. Billions of dead things buried in rock layers, laid down by water, all over the earth. An Evolutionist and a Creationist will look at the same thing, but come to different conclusions because of their different starting points.
Creationists and biologists don’t have the same starting points; a biologist starts with a question and works forward to the conclusion. A Creationist starts with the conclusion and concocts hair-brained and offensively stupid justifications for it.
These comments are not unusual coming from Jessa Duggar; Jessa’s comments reflects the views of her parents. Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar have previously compared abortion to the Holocaust, and Jim Bob also compared the United States to Nazi Germany during a 2013 speech to the Values Voters Summit.
“Debating creationists on the topic of evolution is rather like trying to play chess with a pigeon; it knocks the pieces over, craps on the board, and flies back to its flock to claim victory.” ― Scott D. Weitzenhoffer
