And wouldn’t that be great?
Former well-respected neurosurgeon Ben Carson has been making insane statements for quite a while.
Last week he compared Obamacare to slavery, got huffy when the media called him out and clarified that it was the worst thing since slavery.
Thanks for clearing that up. Because there have been no problematic US policies since 1865, right?
Has anyone checked to see if the brain surgeon has a brain tumor?
If his years at Johns Hopkins Hospitals, albeit from the rarefied perch of surgeon, didn’t demonstrate to Carson the vital need for universal health care, then his own mother should have.
Born into poverty, she left an abusive home to marry at 13. Ultimately she became a single mother, raising two boys. She had to string together several menial positions to support her children.
When the stress became too much, Carson’s mother would leave her children with others and seek out a mental hospital for a week or so. This occurred several times during his childhood.
Dr. Carson has worked, in the past, to highlight the disease of depression. He never said if his own mother used government services for her mental health needs or she was lucky enough to have health insurance from one of the jobs where she worked.
Dr. Carson- single payer health coverage is the same as universal, something that citizens in every other developed nation enjoy.
It was touted by the ultra conservative Heritage Foundation and has been the goal of several Presidents since at least Harry S. Truman.
So Dr. Carson, you are not a cardiologist but find your heart. 15% of Americans lack health coverage. Disproportionately, poor, single mothers seeking a better life for their children. (Sound familiar?)
Stop trying to out stupid the GOP.
It is a fool’s errand.
