The results of a CNN/ORC poll released on Monday found that on nine key issues, Hillary Clinton polls higher than President Obama. Also, most Americans think she would do a good job as President.
ORC International conducted telephone interviews with 1,003 adults, of the total sample 894 were registered voters, 702 respondents were contacted by land line, and 301 by cell phone between May 29 and June 1. The poll has a margin of error of plus or minus 3 percentage points.
On all issues, between 51 and 63 percent of all respondents said they felt that Clinton would do a good job as President. Despite all the Benghazi lies, 64% gave her high marks on foreign policy.
Other issues included the economy where 53 percent feel she would do a “good” or “very good” job; healthcare policy where 57 percent say she would do well; and terrorism where she polled the lowest, but still had 51 percent saying she would do a good or very good job.
When compared to the President’s latest numbers Clinton is doing very well indeed, Obama never reaches the 50 percent mark on any of those nine issues. The President’s approval for his handling of the economy is far below Clinton at 38 percent, on foreign policy he trails her by 23 points at 40 percent. The same holds true for the other issues where the President has approval numbers well below what voters perceive Clinton capable of including gun policy, the environment and immigration.
The Director of polling at CNN, Keating Holland says that the poll suggests that if Clinton is the Democratic nominee in 2016 the President’s low approval ratings will not be a drag on her campaign, assuming she can maintain the positive numbers she is drawing now.
“None of this means that Clinton is a lock for the White House, but it is an enviable position for any candidate to be in.”
