Twenty-five year old Zachary L. Smith of Antioch, Tennessee is behind bars in the Davidson County Jail, being held on a $35,000 bond on charges of filing a false report and tampering with evidence following an investigation into threats to blow up a runway at the Nashville International airport.
The call, the second this month, was received early Saturday morning and resulted in an extensive search by airport security which did not turn up any suspicious items. However, police were able to track Smith’s cell phone back to his home in Antioch where they arrested him Sunday.
Smith, who has no criminal history in Davidson County, denies that he was responsible for the threats, but his cell phone showed two calls to 911 at the time the threats were made, as well as multiple calls to the Russian embassy in Washington D.C. Police say that they have no information about those calls, only that they were placed.
