Once again, Fox News demonstrates that they know absolutely nothing about online culture. Sure, they use Facebook and Twitter, but they have no idea about the craziness that lives at 4Chan. That makes it easy to hook them and leave them flopping like a fish on a dock. Like today.
Jezebel reports that someone over at 4Chan concocted a fun prank (they thought) for Father’s Day: they started a hashtag campaign designed to get people riled up. It worked. The hashtag #EndFathersDay was attributed to crazy feminists who, claiming Father’s Day is sexist and celebrates patriarchy, called for the abolition of the holiday. Of course, it was the 4Chan trolls starting the snowball rolling. And, boy, did it roll! Here’s a sampling of the various responses. Some took it seriously, some knew it was a hoax (or figured it was) and some took advantage of the opportunity to make jokes:
The hoax rolled so quickly that Fox & Friends did a segment on it, inviting Susan Patton onto the show to rail about it. And rail she did. Susan was outraged, outraged that these horrible women would dare to speak out against Father’s Day:
“They’re not just interested in ending Father’s Day, they’re interested in ending men. That’s really what they want. We’re talking about a group of antagonistic feminists, who, firstly, don’t even have men in their lives probably,. So this really has nothing to do with them in its entirety. It just one more thing, one more micro-aggression for them to latch onto and get crazy over.”
So, let me get this straight… feminists hate all men. In fact, they want to make men an extinct species. These women are spiteful and embittered because they don’t have a man so they want to “end men.” They don’t have fathers or brothers or uncles or sons. Somehow they created themselves out of thin air and now are working to eradicate men. It’s amazing what right-wingers will believe, isn’t it?
Here’s the segment from Fox & Friends:
