There is a war on white people going on in this country. Don’t believe us? Ask Mo Brooks, the U.S. Representative for Alabama’s fifth district. According to The Huffington Post, in an interview with Laura Ingraham, Brooks said that Democrats are hurting their standing with white people by, well, advocating for minorities and equality.
“This is a part of the war on whites that’s being launched by the Democratic Party. And the way in which they’re launching this war is by claiming that whites hate everybody else. It’s part of the strategy that Barack Obama implemented in 2008, continued in 2012, where he divides us all on race, on sex, greed, envy, class warfare, all those kinds of things. Well that’s not true.”
What’s not to believe about this? Clearly the Democrats, in pushing for equality for minorities, have taken it way too far and now want to return to the days before the Civil War, where slavery was okay. Except now, they want white people to be the slaves.
Well, perhaps Brooks hasn’t taken it that far, but someone that nutty could. His remarks, according to the HuffPo piece, were in response to Ron Fournier’s complaint that the GOP is working to alienate the largest growing voting bloc in the country by becoming almost entirely the party of old, rich, white men—the very people that like to oppress minorities.
Brooks claimed that every single demographic gets hurt when illegal immigrants push wages down and take jobs. The problems of falling wages and a lack of good jobs are far, far more complex than companies hiring undocumented workers. Deporting them all and closing the southern border isn’t going to make that go away, or really, even help very much.
Brooks said that all demographics support securing the border. That may be true, but the GOP’s method for doing so is heartless, does not even look at all the aspects of the issue, and leaves an awful lot to be desired. Their newest border security plan may actually end up deporting hundreds of thousands of immigrant who are already working here legally, according to the Dallas Morning News. How would it do that? By shutting down a program that President Obama started that grants work permits to people who were brought into the country illegally as children.
This is how the GOP is going to win Latino voters? By threatening to deport people who are currently legally working here? How is this a war on white people? Brooks’ argument and attitude are too similar to the “war on Christianity” crowd. Both of these arguments come from people who are scared witless about seeing the country shift away from their way of thinking. There is no war on white people here. White people like Brooks are still waging a war on minorities, and want to continue to do so for as long as they can.
Strangely enough, the HuffPo piece says Ingraham, who is known to spout of nonsense of her own, doesn’t seem to agree with Brooks about a war on white people.
