Noted liar and bigot Tony Perkins invoked Holocaust imagery to complain about the most recent civil-rights ruling, wondering aloud whether or not “re-education camps” were next and when they were “going to start rolling out the boxcars to start hauling off Christians.”
Perkins spoke Thursday with defense attorney Nicole Martin, of the Alliance Defending Freedom. The case upheld that the bakery owner Jack Phillips had violated Colorado’s anti-discrimination statures when he refused to service LGBT customers who ordered cakes to celebrate their marriage; Martin had represented him. Martin, however, saw the case as something more “insidious,” stating that the case was further proof of the “witch hunts” against Christians.
Isn’t it amazing how readily they identify their faith with bigotry, hatred, and discrimination?
Perkins, proving once again the political right doesn’t understand the Holocaust beyond “this is bad…like saying swear words, mmkay?,” made the reach for the Gold Medal in Stupid and Inane Hitler Analogies when he actually said:
“I’m beginning to think, are re-education camps next? When are they going to start rolling out the boxcars to start hauling off Christians?”
The answer, of course, is never. There’s never been a strong undercurrent of anti-Protestant Christianity in this country compared to the Antisemitism in Europe in the lead up to the Holocaust. Never.
How about you and your fellows get off the cross, Perkins? We could use the wood.
