Of course everyone has heard the clamor from the right-wing publications about the damage done by Obamacare to the economy and how it has ushered in a new employment paradigm. Employers will shift from offering full-time employment to a model which provides only part-time jobs thereby avoiding the need to provide health insurance.
Is this true? Absolutely not. These five charts from The Atlantic tell the story.
Of course the naysayers will say that is only one year and really doesn’t tell us much.
Next, a graph of what has happened to part time employment since March of 2010 when Obamacare was passed. Republicans claim that part-time job creation has skyrocketed because of Obamacare. Nope. Four years of data show that, too, is a GOP lie.
The next comparison: Part-Time jobs DECREASING as a share of the entire work force. Things just don’t look good for the GOP liars.
Here are part time jobs as a share of the labor force since 1980.
Compared to the unemployment rate. As explained by The Atlantic,
“Okay, now here’s something: Part-time work, as a share of the economy, is historically high. But these graphs don’t make the point that Obama, or long-term global economic trends, are driving the rise in non-voluntary part-time work. Instead, the rise of part-time work seem to be 100 percent the creation of economic downturns. That’s why it seems to be holding hands with unemployment, riding the roller coaster up during recessions, and down during recoveries. “
And finally, let’s look at part-time jobs worked for economic versus non-economic reasons For example: people in school, raising families, or due to illness. As you can see, even this data shows that the GOP is lying, as the people working part-time for noneconomic reasons is flat, but also TRENDING DOWN.
Republicans are simply lying when they criticize President Obama’s record on jobs. Help spread the world and share this article on social media forums. The GOP is good at killing jobs, not creating them.
