The first rule of Toddler Fight Club is that YOU DON’T HAVE A [email protected]#$ING TODDLER FIGHT CLUB!
Two Ohio day care workers were fired after video surfaced of the adults watching a fight between two three-year-old toddlers, a boy and a girl, as the workers egged the children on and shot video. The video shows the children hitting one another as the teachers encouraged the toddlers to keep fighting.
“You a cry baby,” one teacher can be heard teasing the little girl, “Cry baby, cry baby. Crying to yourself.” The other encouraged the girl to “hit him back!” and “Don’t stand that crap.” At one point, one of the women sits up –but only so she can get a better shot with her camera.
According to Stepping Stones Daycare Center in Columbus, the workers were fired the next day, and have not been employed there since August 4.
“We contacted the parents, of course. Both teachers that we caught doing this were both terminated, so they no longer work here. We reported it to licensing, so they were aware of everything that was happening as well,” said Victoria Carter, an assistant manager at the day care.
“Where’s the teacher,” asked one mother whose child attends the day care, upon being shown the video. “Where’s the teacher! Did she just say hit him back? I’m done.” Another said that, “It blows my mind that I would ever…my kids won’t be coming back. They won’t be back.”
One of the workers defended her actions, saying that she “should have stopped the fight, but didn’t want to get in the middle of it” because she “didn’t want to get injured” by the two three-year-olds. The other worker claimed that she “told the boy to stop fighting.”
Job and Family Services called the video “disturbing and disappointing,” and promised to open an investigation immediately. The agency noted that Stepping Stones Daycare did not self-report the incident, despite their attorney’s claim that they did.
