Crime turned the tables on an actor who once portrayed lovable “Scruff McGruff” the crime dog, and took a bite outta him! Texas resident John R. Morales (41) has plead guilty to possession of 1,000 marijuana plants, 27 weapons, and 9,000 rounds of ammunition.
The crime dog’s saga began as an encounter with a drug dog in 2011. Morales was pulled over by a K-9 unit and, in what is somehow not a violation of his 4th amendment rights, the dog indicated that “contraband” was inside the vehicle. Police found diagrams of two pot growing operations and some cannabis seeds stashed in the vehicle.
While many may be outraged at what is increasingly becoming seen as police overreach in light of mounting evidence that drug sniffing canines are simply “probable cause on a leash” for a search, what police found upon following the diagrams is terrifying–and we aren’t talking about the 1,000 marijuana plants!
Police confiscated 27 weapons, including a grenade launcher, and 9,000 rounds of ammunition. Morales insists he is not a violent person, but U.S. District Judge Vanessa Gilmore disagreed, stating that “Everything I read about you makes you seem like a scary person.”
Morales was sentenced to sixteen years in prison.
