A Colorado family was left stunned and numbed this weekend after a police officer broke down their front door, fatally shooting one of the residents in the back and not even offering an explanation why.
KRDO reports that the Colorado Bureau of Investigation is working with the 16th Judicial District Attorney’s Office and the 16th Judicial District’s Critical Incident to investigate the offer involved in the Rocky Ford shooting early Sunday morning, around 2:00 am.
Mariah Jacquez told KRDO that her fiance, Jack Jacquez, was shot at his house after a police officer forced down the door and the two men started shouting. Sara Lindenmuth said that her brother-in-law was “standing next to his mom, his back turned towards the officer” when “the officer shot him twice in the back and then pepper sprayed him.” Lindenmuth added that:
Then they hand cuffed his fiancé, for reasons I don’t know why. And the mom went to call the cops and the cop took her phone and threw it against the wall.
Brian Otero told KRDO that he was “shocked” at what happened to his neighbor, saying that “he was a good kid” and that he didn’t “see anything on his side that would prompt the office to shoot him.”
The family has been left with questions for the police, however.
“He just showed up,” Sara Lindemuth said, “No one knows why he just showed up. It just all happened unexpectedly.
Jacquez was rushed to the hospital, where he died.
