Online conservative website, Young Conservatives, has some harsh words for President Obama’s decision to send White House delegates to Michael Brown’s funeral.
Most of what’s gone around the Internet about his failure to attend the funeral of General Greene—the highest-ranked officer killed in a combat zone since 1970—is opinion, but it makes clear that many think Obama and Biden intentionally and shamefully snubbed both Major General Greene, and Margaret Thatcher.
But conservatives on the Young Conservatives site, and on social media, are turning to old tropes to further vilify Obama for daring to send White House delegates to Brown’s funeral. The comments on their article titled, “Unbelievable: Guess How Many Reps The WH Plans On Sending To Michael Brown’s Funeral,” jump on Obama for using this funeral to allegedly make up for ignoring other funerals that are more important, and more appropriate. They also clearly believe the ongoing racist lies about Brown.
One comment thread predictably went as follows:
Another commenter pointed out the patently obvious “truth.”
And this moron conflated Chicago gun violence with a police officer gunning down someone who was unarmed and trying to surrender. That’s not to say that what happened to the children in Chicago over the 4th of July weekend isn’t tragic. But it is a different problem. Same thing with gun violence in D.C.
And, of course, the guy that brought up D.C. then had to point out the golfing. Oh, the huge manatee.
On Twitter, the response was pretty much the same from conservatives. This user implies military priorities are minimized only by this administration. They clearly don’t know any of the history behind the way this country’s treated its military and veterans since at least WWI.
And then there’s this guy, complete with blinders and Faux News talking points.
Of course, they had to trot out the word “thug,” also.
And here’s the old what-can-you-expect-when-we-have-a-Muslim-in-the-White-House trope.
So, Obama sends White House reps to Brown’s funeral in a show of solidarity with the people of Ferguson, and to try and ease race relations. This makes onservative heads explode, because they’re still not paying attention to the facts. Perhaps Obama and Biden should have attended Maj. Gen. Greene’s funeral. The Baltimore Sun reports that was a private service, however, so perhaps nobody in the White House was actually invited. As far as Margaret Thatcher’s funeral, the U.S. did send delegates, so the neo-cons need to stop with that.
