In a report by the Associated Press earlier today it was revealed they have obtained documents confirming that terms related to liberal causes like, “progressive” and “occupy,” were on the IRS’s BOLO (Be on the Lookout) list in addition to terms associated with more conservative groups such as “tea party” and “patriot.”
The Internal Revenue Service targeted liberal groups as well as conservatives seeking tax-exempt status, a Democratic congressman charged on Monday after the agency acknowledged the inappropriate practice continued until last month. Rep. Sander Levin said the term “progressives” was included on IRS screening lists of applicants for tax-exempt status made available to Congress on Monday.
The IRS is still investigating why these specific terms were used to sift through 501(c) tax-exempt status applications, but preliminary finding are that there was no wrongdoing or political motivation.
So, not only was the criteria to sort through applications initiated by a self-proclaimed conservative, it wasn’t even used exclusively for Tea Party groups at all. What I want to know is, how much taxpayer money did Darrell Issa and his cronies waste to find out that groups who are very vocal about their disdain for taxes weren’t targeted by the government agency that overseas collecting taxes?! We couldn’t make this melodramatic nonsense up if we wanted to.
So, TEApublicans, can we get back to trying to fix the economy now please or do you have some more bogus scandals to throw at us?
