A youth pastor from Vinelife Church out of Longmont, Colorado has been accused of sexually assaulting a young girl. Roberson, who allegedly had sexual relations with a girl who was 15 at the time is now 24. His alleged victim informed the police that the sexual relationship she had with the pastor lasted 7 years. The woman contacted Vinelife Church to share her story with the Pastor. Church officials began an investigation, yet failed to report any evidence to the police. Five years later, church elders are being held responsible for failing to report the alleged assault to the authorities.
In a statement from their website, Vinelife reported:
“The Vinelife Church community recently learned of a claim of misconduct concerning an employee working within the church. The church leadership has been cooperating with the family of the young woman and the Boulder Police Department and will continue their efforts to assist in its investigation. Given the nature of the claims, the privacy interests of the persons involved and their families, and ongoing police investigation, we cannot provide any details at this time. We ask for the Church membership, as well as the members of the public, to pray for all of those affected by these events. Thank you.”
According to police reports, Vinelife Church officials denied any documents existed pertaining to the matter when served a court order in July. Vinelife claimed that it was their understanding that the woman in question did not want the issue to become public.
“It was the understanding of the Church leadership that the former employee did not want this matter to be made public. As such, the Church sought and obtained legal counsel, who indicated that the Church leadership would not violate Colorado law by not reporting the incident given the current age of the victim.”
Roberson’s father, Walter Roberson, is also a senior pastor at the church. It is unknown at this time what Walter Roberson knew, and when he knew it.
