There aren’t very many in the world today who can dismantle politicians with as much surgical skill as Stephen Colbert does. Night after night, his political commentary satire show skewers pundits and politicians on both sides of the aisle and does so at true genius levels. So when Republicans like Rand Paul start vacillating back and forth on Syria, seemingly based on nothing more than their perceived political gains and losses of opposing whatever President Obama is for, you just know that the staff over at “The Colbert Report” is licking their lips, and this clip provides the goods and then some.
No one is offended when someone — even a politician who is duplicitous by a matter of their own natural state of being — changes their mind after careful consideration of an issue. After all, that’s what “evolving” on an issue really is; it’s just changing your mind after thinking about it for long enough. But what Senator Paul and many other of his fellow Republicans have been doing is just taking the president’ s positions and turning around a hundred-eighty degrees from that and claiming it as their own. If the president says the sky is blue, Rand Paul will emphatically state it’s polka-dotted. You get the point.
Other than some good digs about Rand’s “hair,” Colbert as usual was able to poke several holes in Senator Paul’s hot air balloon, providing evidence in clips that Rand’s position has been everything from the straight libertarian all the way to the hawkish Neocon, all the while tap dancing away from whatever President Obama says he’s in favor of. Watch Colbert eviscerate Rand’s hypocrisy below!
