On his show this Tuesday, Stephen Colbert took a look at the new children’s book “My Parents Open Carry” written by two advocates of the recent trend of openly strutting around in inappropriate places such as coffee shops, department stores and airports, intimidating people with an open display of weaponry.
“You know I’m a proud supporter of the Second Amendment,” Colbert said. “I consider it first among amendments that aren’t the first one.”
He goes on to lament that gun advocates are “being treated like common criminals,” citing the recent arrest of a neuroscientist for merely going to the airport to purchase a cup of coffee with his AR-15 slung over his shoulder.
He then tells us that we have some people who are looking out for our children by writing this book:
“It tells the heartwarming story of Brenna, her mom, and what looks like her other mom wearing a mustache.”
He noted that the book would make a “beautiful bed-time story” instilling in a child the idea that the world is filled with maniacs looking for an opportunity to harm him or her and that the police are going to do nothing to protect her — ‘put on your fear-goggles honey and go to sleep.’
