CNN’s heavily-criticized coverage of the protests in Ferguson, Missouri has hit a new low. Caucasian host Rosemary Church and African-American co-host Errol Barnett were discussing less-violent possibilities for the way police could handle the demonstrations when Church made what is quite possibly the worst suggestion possible in a situation concerning a nearly all-white police force and predominantly African-American protesters: F#$%ING WATER CANNONS.
“Why this use of tear gas, stun grenades?” she asked, “Why not just use a water cannon? At least it’s not going to have the same sort of effect…”
It took Barnett a moment to process the monumentally stupid statement, but when he did–you’ll just have to see for yourself. The look on his face says it all.
Wow. Great suggestion. Let’s blast crowds of peaceful African-Americans with hoses. Where have we heard that, before?
Oh. That’s right. There.
Here’s another bright idea: Why don’t we sic dogs on the protesters, too?
Church unintentionally highlighted one important point about America: the civil rights battle is ongoing, and far from over.
