CNN’s Reliable Sources blasted Fox News for jumping on the “Darren Wilson Fractured Eye Socket” bandwagon without actually checking their sources, or even doing some basic research.
Media Matters for America posted a portion of the show’s August 24 edition, which shows a Fox News reporter saying the following:
“Now there is information out that [Wilson] was hit hard enough to break the bones around his eye. That information coming from The Gateway Pundit, reporting that the injury is an orbital blowout fracture to the eye socket. The report source is a leak within the county prosecutor’s office.”
Ha. Ha. HA! Ha. HA! HA!! HA!!! Even Fox News ought to be smarter than this. The Gateway Pundit isn’t the most reliable source on the planet. As we reported only a few days ago (along with other outlets) Jim Hoft, the author of that “breaking” news story, stole the CT scan images from the University of Iowa and blacked out their name so badly that you can see exactly what he did. Then he claimed that the image was of Darren Wilson’s injury. That doesn’t exactly give him credibility as a news source.
But wait! There’s more. Apparently Fox News later found their own anonymous source, and, according to the video on Media Matters, all of their prime time pundits picked it up and ran with it. One of their reporters on the ground asked a protester whether that injury would justify all of the force that Wilson used against Brown. The protester said, unequivocally, “SIX shots? NO.”
CNN did its own groundwork, and cited yet another anonymous source. However, that source said that while Wilson did get hospital treatment for swelling to his face, he did not have a broken eye socket. Nobody that CNN has been able to talk to will confirm an orbital blowout fracture.
So, Faux News is caught in the act, along with many other media sources, apparently. Game over. Better luck next time, guys.
Watch CNN slam Fox for their false story on Darren Wilson’s ‘injury.’
