On Thursday, Senator Mitch McConnell was elected unanimously by the new Republican Senate to be the new Majority Leader, according to a McConnell spokesman.
McConnell was nominated by Sen. Kelly Ayotte (R-NH), and his nomination was seconded by Senator-Elect Tom Cotton (R-AR). Once the new Congress is sworn in in January, that’s it. A new age of darkness is upon America.
Prior to the election, McConnell promised more gridlock, more shutdowns, more efforts to push the Republicans’ agenda through attachments to “must-pass” spending bills if he did not keep his seat. However, if he was elected, the former Senate Minority Leader vowed that Republicans would bring a “merciful end” to the Republican-led gridlock.
“A new Republican majority wouldn’t mean we’d be able to get everything you want from Washington. But it would mean we’d be able to bring the current legislative gridlock to a merciful end. It means we’d be able to start sending bills to the president’s desk again, just as the American people expect,” McConnell said in a Republican Party weekly address.
Unfortunately, an end to Congressional gridlock under a Republican majority may be a reality, but not in any manner that would benefit America. It simply means that fewer will be there to stand in the way of the GOP’s efforts to slowly but surely hand our country over to their corporate masters, deny Americans equal rights, and chip away at the foundation of our nation bit by bit until it resembles their version of what America should be.
In essence, by giving in to McConnell’s demands, American voters capitulated to the demands of terrorists — and they have just selected their leader in the Senate — the man who, like any terrorist making a video, proudly sat and declared that he and his cohorts would blow everything to smithereens unless they are handed exactly what they want.
