What could possibly be more American than Muslim children singing our national anthem on Texas Muslim Capitol Day on Thursday?
The lunatic right-wing Christians who interrupted them screaming “No Sharia” and “Go home,” that’s what!
The celebration was organized by the Texas chapter of every right-winger’s favorite boogieman Muslim organization, the Council on American-Islamic Relations, and was billed as “an opportunity for community members to learn about the democratic political process and how to be an advocate for important issues.” The group attending was mostly Muslim students and children, with a few faith leaders.
And lunatic Hatriots; the event was very vocally protested by a group of bigoted cowards called the “Patriot Defense Foundation, Inc.,” which makes me think of a gun-running company arming small children in Africa. The “Patriot Defense Foundation, Inc.” claimed that CAIR wanted to “take over” America, and destroy American for “Americans [who] believe in the Constitution and what this country was founded on.”
According to reporters on the scene, the group of about twenty made their presence known, with some carrying signs that read “Radical Islam Is The New Nazi” and “Go Home & Take Obama With You.”
Others carried signs that read: “I serve a risen savior, Jesus Christ, Muhammad is dead.”
Early in the celebration, one of these hostile, obdurate clowns grabbed the microphone away from a Muslim speaker and shouted into it, “I proclaim the name of the Lord Jesus Christ over the capitol of Texas. I stand against Islam and the false prophet.”
Local reporters noted that some protesters shouted “Islam is a lie!” at Muslim children as they were singing the National Anthem. Another shouted that “There’s no ‘twilight’ in Sharia!”
And that’s a good thing, too. Those books are horrible.
And just in case you forgot this was Texas, before the rally, State Representative Molly White (R-Confederacy) left a message on her Facebook wall saying that she wouldn’t be able to attend the celebration, but that she did “leave an Israeli flag on the reception desk in my office with instructions to staff to ask representatives from the Muslim community to renounce Islamic terrorist groups and publicly announce allegiance to America and our laws.”
She snidely added “We will see how long they stay in my office.”
I wouldn’t stay in her office long with that attitude (and I’d be doing all sorts of campaigning to make sure she didn’t, either). I’m as far removed from a Muslim as you can get; I’m just a person who expects basic manners and socialization out of elected officials, but since this is Texas, that’s apparently a bit much to ask for.
