Bryan Fischer, the Christian Taliban Cleric who believes we are all free to worship as we choose, just as long as it complies with his rules for worship, was at it again on his radio show this Monday. This time his target was what he perceives to be a lack of patriotism in this country, meaning that not enough of us worship as he has told us to.
At the top of his show he said:
“The lack of patriotism is a sin against God. Now what I mean by that is you have many people in our land who refuse to show any love, any appreciation, any admiration for this country.”
Of course what Fischer means by that is there are too many people in this country who oppose his desire to turn us into a Christian theocracy, something which he earnestly believes was the intention of the Founding Fathers.
He went on to explain that God gave us this land and that refusing to “thank God is an insult to him,” amounting to a lack of patriotism — which is a sin.
That Fischer would make such an outrageous claim is not at all strange to those who are familiar with his rantings. This is the same man who has said that God does not intervene to stop school shootings because he is too polite to go where he is not wanted.
Oh, and there was the time when he said “when the Founding Fathers use the word ‘religion’ in the First Amendment, they were referring to Christianity” and only Christianity. They never envisioned allowing Muslims to exercise their religion freely.
To further prove his devotion to the first amendment, he suggested that it would be a good idea to adopt a law similar to one in freedom-loving Russia which would outlaw the use of profanity in the arts and entertainment, saying that “states are perfectly free under the Constitution to ban profanity if they choose to because the purpose of the First Amendment was ‘to protect political speech’ not ‘profanity, obscenity, vulgarity, or pornography.”
And who can forget that time that he suggested that “the poor and the low income and the middle class” should be “kissing the ground” that the wealthy walk on because it is they who support this nation with the confiscatory taxes that are levied upon them.
