Once again the poor put upon “Christians” are being “persecuted” for their faith, this time in Dyersburg, Tennessee.
The incident began when one of 17 year-old Kendra Turner’s classmates sneezed and she responded by saying “bless you,” causing the teacher, a respected 40-year veteran of the school system, to ask who was talking in class.
Turner admits that she owned up to being the one who had spoken, but this is where the story begins to sound like it has been highly embellished:
“‘Why did you say that?'” Turner says the teacher asked.
“I said because it is courtesy,” Turner said.
Now the story enters the realm of what appears to be pure fiction:
“‘We will not have Godly speaking in my class!’ That is when I stood up and said My pastor said I have a constitutional right — 1st amendment freedom of speech. She said ‘not in my class you don’t.'”
“We allow the teachers to set rules in the classroom that work best for them and I think that’s fair. We really stress what we call reasonable request. If a teacher asks his or her students to do something reasonable to avoid a distraction in the classroom, then we expect the students to follow the rules. If it’s not a reasonable request then we’ll sit down and talk about it to get it right.”
