If you pay attention to what conservatives call “news,” you know that a recent beheading in Oklahoma that happened to involve a Muslim is being used to perpetuate the myth that all who practice Islam are murderous terrorists.
Alton Nolen decapitated one coworker and stabbed another after his termination from a food processing plant sent him into a homicidal rage. While police say that there is no link to terrorism, all we have heard is the rapidly-renewed protestations from the Right that all Muslims are evil.
But there’s one beheading in Oklahoma that has drawn nothing but silence from the “Christian” Right. Isaiah Marin of Stillwater, Oklahoma was charged on Thursday with first-degree murder for the brutal beheading of his 19-year-old roommate.
Marin, a devout practitioner of the Christian faith, learned that Jacob Crockett had been practicing witchcraft, so he did what any good “Christian” would do — chopped his roommate up with a machete.
Marin and Crockett were playing cards with Marin’s brother when the Christian extremist took a ‘large black sword’ from its sheath and began swinging it around, the Daily Mail reports. When his brother asked him to be careful, Marin replied, “I would never cut you, bro.”
Just moments later, the brother told police, he heard “the sound of someone getting stabbed,” and saw blood gushing from Crockett’s chest. Crockett’s head was found “mostly severed” from his body, and the teen was stabbed several times.
Marin and Crockett had been at odds because Marin viewed his victim’s practice of witchcraft as a violation of his “strong” Christian beliefs, according to court records. The “devout” Christian was described by one student at Northwest Oklahoma College as a “heavy drug user” and a “religious zealot.”
Marin had been watching YouTube videos “related to his Christian beliefs and the book of Matthew” just hours prior to the murder.
After attacking his roommate, Marin ran away and called police from a parking lot. “I murdered someone,” he said, according to court records. “I hacked them to death with a machete.” Afterwards, Marin began rambling about “sacrificing” and “magic.”
Police found Marin running down the street, a trail of his victim’s blood in his path and the murder weapon still in his hands.
When will The Blaze call for a nationwide ban on the practice of Christianity? When will FOX News question if all Christians are terrorists? Thus far, the sound of crickets can be heard loudly emanating from conservative media. Could it be that this does not fit the narrative? That this crime, no matter how horrible, is not convenient in pushing a hateful and convenient narrative?
When we finally do hear about this from right-wing media, we will surely hear how his “psychological problems” and “drug use” were the root causes of the attack — because under no circumstances could this possibly have anything to do with religious extremism.
Until then, chirp, chirp.
