During a segment on the irrational Republican hatred for President Obama this Wednesday, Chris Matthews suggested that it was analogous to school children on the playground avoiding any contact for fear of catching “cooties” from him.
Matthews was speaking with one of the recent defectors from the party of hate, former Florida Governor Charlie Crist, who is hoping to win the Democratic nomination to run again for that office. He asked Crist if incidents such as the remarks made recently by a Republican congressman in which he said that just being in the room with the President made him “sick” was symptomatic of what is wrong with the party today.
“It’s not only bad politics it’s simply bad behavior. You know, we’re supposed to treat each other with a level of respect and decency that we’re taught you know in our Judeo Christian upbringing,” Crist said.
He went on to say that when the President visited Florida to see what he could do to help them, he found it offensive that some TEApublicans took umbrage at the visit.
“This is the President of the United States of America, and so what if he’s not the same party, he’s the leader of our country and you show the respect that that office deserves.”
That is just plain wrong. Compromise is what makes a democracy work, without it the whole system falls apart.
