Chamber of Commerce CEO Tom Donahue has expressed his dislike for Senator Ted Cruz (R- Canada via Cuba) to a room full of reporters.
So these sentiments are on the record.
Ladies and Gentlemen, welcome to the great civil war erupting in the GOP. On one side are the nihilistic Tea Party folks who hate government and will wreck it to make their point.
And in the other corner are the traditional guard, business and wealthy citizens looking to ease their tax burdens and shape capitalism to help their bottom lines.
Donahue joins others like the Koch Brothers in expressing dismay over recent events.
In addition to the business leader’s tennis analogy — Cruz rushes the net without enough movement back and forth, he frankly states that the Senator hasn’t demonstrated that he can actually accomplish anything.
Donahue was asked if Cruz should/could be persuaded to “sit down and shut up.” He responded with: “Well that might be one thing we could work on.”
What’s remarkable is how candid the CEO of a major public interest group continues to be in commenting about a sitting Senator.
The dislike is palpable.
Donahue gave guarded props to John Boehner, saying that the House leader appears stronger than he was a month ago.
Also, the business leader signaled that he, and thus his group, is interested in immigration reform.
Cruz: stop talking and listen to what the business establishment is saying about you.
It really isn’t much different than what most of the rest of the country also believes.
