Matthew Kibbe, CEO of Freedom Works, tweeted to urge his followers to read an article celebrating the success of the shutdown.
Tyler Cowen, the writer of the piece offers the following analysis. “Republicans convinced some of their opponents that they are crazy and irresponsible, without actually being crazy (though they were irresponsible, but that is the whole point).”
Actually recent polls have shown that the American public was very unhappy with the government taken hostage for 13 days and clearly blame the GOP.
Perhaps Kibbe has not written on this subject himself, besides the laudatory tweet is because his true bosses the Koch Brothers didn’t like the shutdown.
And they made the point quite publicly.
It was reported last week that FreedomWorks is in sizeable debt and was going to borrow money to pay their expenses. Question: would that be comparable to raising the debt ceiling to meet obligations?
Of course the economy is down, but FreedomWorks has make some questionable business decisions, including underwriting Glenn Beck’s network Blaze.
Also, conservative groups, like politicians are also being primaried in the sense that even more conservative organizations pop up and the formerly outré ones get left behind.
Some of Freedomworks’ fiscal issues could stem from the $8 million payout to former executive Dick Armey. Or just bad management. Or rapid staff turnover.
So Mr. Kibbe. If carrying a deficit is so bad, and shutting down operations is a good solution, let’s try it with your organization.
