Just today, I ran across a meme on a conservative page promoting the New World Order and implanted microchips. And while I’m very familiar with the meme, I’d never seen this version before, so it might have been a new one. The operating term there is “might have been,” since there’s so many out there rehashing conservative fears that it’s hard to tell. But the theme behind it always remains the same: just like Ebola, just like ISIS, just like the border, just like immigration, the core motivating emotion behind right-wing isn’t patriotism, and it’s certainly not bravery.
It’s cold fear.
If it’s not fear of immigrants, it’s fear of God, and if it’s not fear of God, it’s fear of burglaries, fear of attacks, fear of terrorism; “fear” is the one word that you need whenever you talk about right-wingers of any stripe. From fear of Blacks to fear of change, it’s all about the fear. And this hasn’t gone unnoticed; Cenk Uygur, together with John Iadarola, broke it down today on The Young Turks.
Uygur began by discussing George Zimmerman, noting how Zimmerman said he was “afraid for his life” despite being the one armed with a weapon, and how Zimmerman was the one who chased down Trayvon Martin and attacked first:
Trayvon Martin, when you chase him down with your gun, he dared to fight back, right? Nope. You gotta put a bullet in him, because you’re so scared. Darren Wilson, I have blush on my cheek . . . ‘I was so scared;’ Hannity, ‘I was so scared,’ Every conservative in social media is so scared, we’re all so scared! Okay then, change all your handles to ‘I’m a pussy’ and just own it!
He went on to highlight that conservatives “lived and bathed in fear,” saying that conservatives are little more than frightened cowards once you got to the heart of it. “That’s you in a nut shell,” Uyger said, “Your entire ideology is how much of a pussy you are.”
“If that’s your defense,” he said of Zimmerman and Wilson, “Then own it. Say, ‘you know what? We’re changing the name of the party. Just change the name of the party to the ‘pussy party’ and be done with it.”
Given the amount of adult material the average religious conservative consumes, and how obsessed with sex they are? It’s certainly got an ironic ring to it.
