Be afraid, Bill Maher!
Bill Donohue has presented the world with some doozies in the past, but it seems he has gone off the deep end this time. The Catholic League President has decided that enough is enough!
You might remember the time Dan Savage was a guest on Bill Maher’s show and made some interesting comments about Catholic priests. Savage, for instance, referred to them as “kiddie-f***ers,” and said that they have squandered their moral high ground to talk about children “on the tips of their d*cks.”
Well, Bill Donohue no likie. In a blog post on the Catholic League web site, Donohue announced that he is requesting that “every Bishop in the nation” write to Time Warner’s CEO Jeff Bewkes, and that everyone else e-mail the VP of Corporate Communications Keith Cocozza to request that Bill Maher’s show be canceled:
[box type=”shadow”] The board of directors at Time Warner cannot distance themselves from Bill Maher any longer. On Friday night, Maher teed up Dan Savage, another anti-Catholic bigot. What happened was particularly vicious.
Maher commented on gay couples who adopt children, alleging that a Hawaiian bishop said these kids had a greater chance of committing suicide. Here is how Savage responded: “That’s total bulls***. He’s confusing children of gay parents with children who are raped by Catholic priests. Sorry, I am just done being lectured about children and their safety by Catholic-f***ing bishops, priests, cardinals.” Shortly thereafter, Savage again remarked about “kiddie-f***ing Catholic priests.”
We are sending to every member of Time Warner’s board of directors a copy of 54 anti-Catholic statements made by Bill Maher on TV [click here to read the report]. Friday’s show concluded the season. The time has come to close this show once and for all.
The new season of “Real Time with Bill Maher” is scheduled to begin January 17. I am writing to every bishop in the nation requesting that they write to Jeff Bewkes, Chairman of the Board of Directors and CEO, Time Warner, Inc. [click here]. The show deserves to be cancelled.[/box]
That’s right. Bill Maher has only made 54 anti-Catholic comments that Donohue can find. Oh, and he wants to fire Bill Maher over comments made by a guest on the show.
Savage has some very good reasons to despise Catholics, and Donohue specifically. Donohue has in the past likened the LGBT rights movement ro Apartheid, has said that priests aren’t pedophiles because many of their victims have hit puberty, and has blamed sex abuse in the Catholic church on gays. As a gay man who is not fond of the rampant sexual abuse that is condoned and covered up by the Catholic church, Savage may just be correct in expressing his discontent by making accurate statements. Unfortunately, facts have long been an anathema to Donohue and like-minded individuals.
Of course Donohue’s Pedo-Brigade won’t be successful, but it does speak volumes for the Catholic viewpoint on a very important issue: Sweep it under the rug and viciously attack anyone who attempts to speak on the matter of what priests regularly do to little boys.
