We all lose our cool from time to time; each of us has our own buttons that, if pressed, cause us to break.
It appears that several protesters have found Representative Stephan Knight’s buttons. A new video posted online by an anti-immigration group called “We the People Rising” shows the California Republican losing his call and threatening to “drop” a hostile interlocutor.
Why do they always pick these vapid, thought-terminating clichéd names? If it’s not an “American Family Association,” it’s some other jingoistic bullcrap. Patriotism clearly isn’t the last refuge of the intellectually challenged scoundrel, it’s the first.
The video shows a heated exchange about President Obama’s immigration executive order. The protesters — one in particular, called “Mike” — repeatedly accuse knight of voting for President Obama’s “amnesty,” and when Knight claims he voted for no such thing, the protesters scoff.
Shouts like “Oh, come on!” and “We’re gonna vote you out in two years when your term’s over!” can be heard. It’s not an environment conducive to rationality.
Eventually, Mike gets up close and personal, at which point Knight informs him that, “If you touch me again, I’ll drop your ass.”
Knight’s office issued an apology shortly after the incident:
“I have dealt with this group on several occasions and every time they try to escalate our conversations to a level that is not constructive. Over this past weekend, I lost my cool and I regret responding the way I did.”
If you’re looking for yet another example of Republicans eating their own, here you go.
