A ‘responsible gun owner’ in California is behind bars after a strong overreaction to a Girl Scout’s visit to his door. The girl and her father were traveling door-to-door selling cookies when they encountered the home of John Dodrill. After they knocked, the Temecula man answered the door with his gun drawn, pointing the firearm at the child.
The girl’s father immediately called the police, who arrested Dodrill for suspected assault with a deadly weapon and seized his weapon for evidence. His bail has been set at $25,000.
Recently, the right wing has had a love-hate relationship with the Girl Scouts. Recently, a group of “run rights” extremists used girls selling cookies as props in violation of a number of Girl Scout safety regulations. But the tide quickly turned when the GSA tweeted an article that suggested Wendy Davis and Kathleen Sebelius were strong women.
It is unclear if the man had a motive behind pointing a gun at a child, but is there ever really an excuse?
