We have all have seen the Blackfish documentary, and know damn well that sea animals should not be confined or used for human amusement.
Yet here we are in 2015, still doing the same stupid sh*t.
Sea World has apparently been financially hurt by the release of the documentary, and rightfully so!
Anyone affiliated with Sea World after seeing that film is an absolutely terrible human.
Activists want the torture chain closed for good, and laws put in place to protect this from happening again.
Finally, a legislator is working to put an end to Sea World once and for all.
A California congressman is planning to introduce a bill that would end the use of orcas for entertainment purposes.
According to Raw Story:
“Democratic Rep. Adam Schiff said Friday he plans to introduce a bill to prohibit the breeding of captive orcas, end the capture of wild orcas and stop the import and export of the killer whales.”
If the bill passes it would put an end to marine shows across the United States.
As soon as the whales currently in captivity die off, the barbaric pastime will die too.
Schiff said in a statement:
“The evidence is very strong that the psychological and physical harm done to these magnificent animals far outweighs any benefits reaped from their display.”
Sea World currently owns 24 orcas in three different parks in the country.
One other captive orca is housed at the Miami Seaquarium.
Jill Kermes, a Sea World spokesperson, defended her employer:
“Through our work with scientists, conservation leaders and the government, SeaWorld is ensuring that all animals in human care are treated with the dignity and respect they require and deserve.”
You are full of sh*t, Jill.
It’s inhumane to keep an animal that size in a swimming pool for its entire life, no matter how big and expensive the pool is.
Last year, this same amazing Democrat tried to amend the federal Animal Welfare act to “reflect the growing scientific and public concern about the effect of captivity on these animals.”
The amendment was not included in the final bill.
Congressman Adam Schiff, you are a good man.
Thank you for standing up for these amazing creatures.
