Officer Phillip White, from the San Jose PD, has a few thoughts for those tweeting with the hashtag #Blacklivesmatter, and none of them are particularly pleasant.
BuzzFeed alerted the San Jose PD to White’s Twitter shenanigans after the officer made threatening tweets to the #Blacklivesmatter protesters, writing in at least one tweet, “Threaten me or my family and I will use my God given and law appointed duty to kill you #CopsLivesMatter.” The tweets were deleted shortly before the account was locked down.
When she addressed the tweets, San Jose spokesperson Sgt. Heather Randol told BuzzFeed that, “We have forwarded the matter up the chain of command for review,” before promising, “We can provide a response upon the completion of the review process.”
In some of the tweets, White used #CopLivesMatter, a take on the #Blacklivesmatter hashtag that’s being used to protest the routine, almost weekly murder of Black Americans by police officers.
He addressed a tweet that pictured UC Berkeley women basketball players with t-shirts that bore the names of African-American men killed by police by saying that it was “BS” and “Free education. Don’t forget who is paying for your school. @CalWBBall me & other CA tax paying cops.”
It’s actually everyone in the United States who pays taxes, but that’s not something you hear in these arguments. It’s all about them.
In reference to Eric Garner’s “I can’t breathe” as he was choked to death by a New York City police officer, White wrote that “By the way if anyone feels they can’t breathe or their lives matter I’ll be at the movies tonight, off duty, carrying my gun.”
He even offered up weather reports, noting in a tweet that the heavy rains and flooding in NoCal might “quell” the protests, writing: “Nothing like some torrential rain & wind to quell a protest. Let’s see how important this really is to them when they’re drenched.”
