Here’s your daily dose of Schadenfreude…Papa Bear O’Reilly putting the spurs to Karl “The Architect” Rove live on FOX. The Architect was responsible for Bush stealing the 2000 election from Al Gore — and his talent for deception served Republicans well when it came time to start spinning lies to justify Bush’s war on Iraq.
Of course, talented liars are always in high demand in politics; they only become a problem when they start believing their own lies. Such was the case when Rove threw a public fit in 2012, when he found out Obama was getting re-elected. Rove (FOX’s senior political analyst) had predicted Romney by a landslide, and maintained that he would win even after the game was called in Ohio.
Not even Megyn Kelley could make sense of it. She asked “Is this just math that you do as a Republican to make yourself feel better? Or is this real?”
Oh, it was real, all right. And so is this clip from O’Reilly.
In it, Karl breaks out the infallible and FOX-appropriate White Board to show why the Democratic Party is destined to lose at all things forever. But Bill warned him not to bring his prognosticating plastic parchment into Caesar’s Palace.
ROVE: “I don’t gamble.”
BILL: “With your prediction record, that’s a wise move.”
ROVE: “You know, that was personal and petty. That was personal and petty.”
BILL: “That’s me — P and P.”
Of course, Rove maintained his pinched half-smile, but that smile (as plastic as the board he held) somehow seemed less genuine than Bill’s mocking laughter. After all, a “bad prediction record” isn’t exactly something you want as a “political analyst.” Then again, on FOX, no “Architect” need do more than deal the cards of plausible lies, and build a few houses out of them.
Say what you will…FOX knows its viewership.
