Are we at the point yet where we, as a culture, can finally just recognize that the Right has begun acting out its own parodies of itself? Go far enough past the reality barrier, and it’s like Weird Al Yankovic suddenly put on 300 pounds, and decided to start a real-life street gang made up of nothing but fat people.
Much time has passed since the Tea Party was first (and most accurately) compared to the Taliban on The Newsroom. Even less since they began comparing themselves to KGB Col. Vladmir Putin. But blind hatred does funny things…some less funny than others.
The U.S. and Obama specifically have been trying to avoid getting involved in the 6,776,447th crisis in the Holy Land, this time involving a group of Muslims called ISIS. But try as we might, America couldn’t simply walk out of Mordor, and ISIS proved itself a force that needed dealing with.
That fact became impossible to ignore when ISIS began waging a Crusade against the people of Iraq’s Northern country, in an effort to “purify” the region.
The Yazdi people practice a form of religion derived largely from Zoroastrianism — at least, in a slightly more direct way than Judaism, Christianity and Islam are also derived from it. In the Yazdi religion, the Creator God placed the world under the care of seven angels, the chief of whom was the “Peacock Angel,” Melek Taus.
Melek Taus (the embodiment humanity’s potential for both good and evil) had a falling out with God due to pride. God cast him into a fiery pit for punishment, but Melek’s own irreconcilable tears of remorse extinguished the flames. Melek reconciled with God afterward, who forgave the embodiment of both good and evil for his trespasses.
Melek, to the Yazdi, is a symbol of the danger of pride, and an ever-present reminder that the mercy of God is always available to those willing to ask.
Or, to Christians and Muslims, Melek is: THE DEVIL.
Since it came to power, ISIS has been busy doing Allah’s work, pursuing a campaign of genocide against the Yazdi. At the moment, about 40,000 Yazdi are trapped by ISIS on a mountain with no food or water. Most of them are women, regarded as “slaves” by ISIS. Read: “rape toys.” At least 500 Yazdis have already been killed by ISIS, some of whom were simply buried alive.
Now, some might note that this is slightly worse than the exile-tax-or-prison deal offered to Christians in other areas. Some might say that being one of 40,000 who are starved to death or buried alive is even a bit worse than the few (very public) executions against Christians who refused to leave or pay taxes. But, the (tax-exempt, $18-million a year registered hate group) American Family Association and its spokesman Bryan Fischer don’t see it that way.
You can watch Fischer’s taxpayer-funded rant in the videos below, but here’s the basic gist of it. From the AFA’s blog:
“He has authorized humanitarian and military action in Iraq in his determination to protect the Yazidis, whose religion features an archangel who defied God following the creation of Adam and thereby became worthy of their reverence. That being, of course, is Satan.”
“The Yazidis are without a doubt in a terrible, terrible plight, with 40,000 of them trapped by Muslims on a mountain with no food or water. Many of their children have already died of thirst.”
(Big of you to notice.)
Then Fischer gets to “the point”:
“The point here is certainly not to criticize President Obama for taking action to relieve their suffering. The point here is that he has shown no empathy or inclination to intervene to stop the wholesale slaughter of Christians by Muslims in the same part of the world. It has taken the suffering of devil-worshipers to get his attention and rouse him to action.
When Christian wife and mother Meriam Ibrahim is imprisoned in Sudan for being a Christian, and forced to give birth in a filthy jail cell while shackled to the wall, Obama yawns. While Christian pastor and American citizen Saeed Abedini languishes in the hellhole of an Iranian prison, Obama yawns.
But when worshipers of Lucifer get in trouble at the hands of the same blood-thirsty savages, suddenly Obama springs into action. What this reveals about the president’s religious sympathies I will leave for others to decide. But it can’t be good.”
Now, it should be noted that Fischer does make an important point: that in the Quran, Melek Taus’ name is “Shaytan,” or Satan. So, arguably, it’s the same guy…he’s right about that. It’s just that, for some strange reason, Christian and Muslims fail to mention that part about how God forgave Melek for his evil ways and reconciled with him afterward. Almost as though they had a reason not to proliferate the notion of self-salvation, that Hell was not necessarily a permanent punishment, or that God/Allah was capable of forgiving sins without the need for an intercessor.
Can’t imagine why they’d be against that.
But count on it: One thing they are against, and will always be against, no matter what…is Obama. Because he’s a Muslim.
