On July 12, 2014, Kathy Perkins, Founder of Moms with Guns Demand Action, posted a picture from a Fox & Friends link. Her controversial and threatening comment, available to the public, posted along with the link to Fox & Friends is beyond worrisome.
The fact that people ‘liked’ a comment inferring that she wanted someone to kill the President was atrocious. Although we have our differences within the nation most of the people involved in the political process agree that calls to violence are over-the-top and unacceptable. When Gabriel Giffords was shot there was condemnation from both the right and the left. It appears the teabaggers have given up on that call for civility.
It has always been understood that the President is not merely a person, a position, or even an office figurehead – it is a representation of our nation. Losing a President to an assassination would be destructive to the country as a whole. When Kennedy was assassinated – members from both the left and the right mourned and condemned the actions of the shooter.
It is not merely that a person in that position is being disrespected, it’s the fact that these murderous filthy teabaggers don’t care about the nation as a whole. They are clearly stuck in a bubble surrounded by an echo chamber – and they are letting those ignorant ramblings enter the public sphere, in the form of highly illegal death threats towards our President and Commander-in-Chief.
Many people have contacted the FBI to inform them of this possible threat.
The worst part, however, is that Casey Hindman – a fan and friend of Kathy Perkins – offerred to give an assassin referral to Kathy. This is not an appropriate or acceptable joke under any circumstances. If it was said in jest it needs to be stated that such a sense of humor is inappropriate in our highly polarized political arena.
Just ask Gabby Giffords.
